Top 100 Of The Most Iconic/Greatest Movie Scenes In Cinematic History: 100-91

Over the years, many institutions, websites and blogs have created a list of the greatest movies or the most iconic scenes and so on. So I’ve decided to jump on the band wagon…

Now this list of the Top 100 of the Most Iconic/Greatest Movie Scenes in Cinematic History include movies dating back decades all the way to films released this year. Starting with 100-91, each week or so I will release the next batch until we reach that ever-elusive and ever-changing number 1 spot.

Once I get down to the Top 10, then I will have a seperate post that is linked together for easier access. Not to mention a post that will have the entire list for 1-100!

I hope you enjoy my selections of films/scenes… It wasn’t easy choosing them but enjoyable to do nonetheless!

100 – 21 Jump Street: Drug Scene

"F*ck you Science!"
Kicking off the list is the scene from the hit comedy 21 Jump Street. A brilliantly casted film with the pairing of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum playing two undercover cops, this scene in particular is one of the funniest. Showing the effects and stages of the synthetic drug HFS, the scene is well crafted and just down right funny. They say laughter is the key to happiness and this scene holds plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. I feel this is a fitting way to start the countdown…

Check it out below:

99 – Austin Powers: Looks Like a…

"Yeah baby! Yeah!"

Staying with the humorous side of things, the International man of mystery – or Austin Powers – comes in next. One of the many jokes in the raunchy comedy, this one is by far one of the most memorable and frankly, quite clever with the recurring joke of… well. See for yourself:

98 – Pitch Perfect: The Riff-off

"acca-scuse me?"
An unconventional choice here, but still a good one… personally. Coming from the musically-filled A cappella film Pitch Perfect, the riff-off scene in the empty swimming pool incorporates hit songs, past and present, and makes singing cool again.

An impressive array of vocals from the cast, it’s a film that has revived music from its Grease/Les Mis days into ordinary life. The reason this scene is on this list is because it’s really rather impressive. What the Hell is a riff-off? This is a riff-off:

Excuse the poor quality video but there’s not many showcasing the full thing on YouTube…

97 – Right Stuff: Astronaut Walk

Just keep walking like that
Ah the famous walk. Everyone has seen this. If you haven’t seen this film then there’s no doubt you’ve seen a variation or parody of this. From cartoons like Family Guy or The Simpsons to niche and meta comedies like Community, everyone has done it!

96 – Stand By Me: Train!

"Traaaaaaaiinnnnnn!"
The 1986 film Stand By Me that’s based on the Stephen King novel The Body, helped to launch the careers of Corey Feldman, Will Wheaton and Kiefer Sutherland. The scene in question builds suspense that’s accompanied by shots of the beautiful surroundings.

A truly brilliant and underrated film:

95 – Sixth Sense: Ending Scene

Did not see that one coming...
Definitely one of M. Night Shyamalan’s better films, if not his best. The Sixth Sense is one film where everyone knows the ending, no matter if you’ve seen it. You would have to have been living under a rock to not know it! Bruce Willis takes centre stage here and portrays the ending brilliantly. Even if you didn’t see it in cinemas in 1999 (I sure didn’t!) just think about how shocked you would have been if you did saw it then?!

94 – The Birds: Playground Scene

If you hate birds... then steer clear of this film.
We all know Alfred Hitchcock is a master at making our skin crawl but this scene in particular is a cracker. While Tippi Hedren’s character Melanie waits while having a smoke, the flock of crows quietly gather behind her on the school playground. Not only that, but it is accompanied by a chilling nursery rhyme that is played over the top of this scene.

As a 1960’s film, this particular scene has been cemented firmly into popular culture’s iconic scenes and if you haven’t seen this film, I would highly recommend it over the constant sequels and reboots Hollywood has been providing us of late…

93 – The Wolf of Wall Street: Opening Monologue

"Sell me this pen."
One of Leonardo DiCaprio’s best films (which is saying a lot, seeing all the great films he’s been in!) The Wolf of Wall Street shows us why women, alcohol, corruption & drugs are fun – I kid.

Based extremely loosely on Jordan Belfort’s life and consequent rise and fall from the top, the opening monologue sets the tone of the film perfectly and Leo’s portrayal perfectly. It shows off his arrogance (which is his Achilles heel) and the lavish lifestyle I’m sure we all wouldn’t mind having.

Enjoy it:

92 – Bad Boys II: Reggie Scene

"Motherf*cker, you at least 30!?"
In an action-packed Michael Bay film, you’d be rather surprised that this scene is here. Clearly for its comedy gold, this scene is one of the highlights in a great film. Opening with their iconic “Bad Boys for life” quote before a sharp contrast in the extremely over-protective father figures of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence scaring the life out of poor little Reggie, this scene is one of the most memorable and funniest scenes from the film.

Wouldn’t want to meet parents like this:

91 – Poltergeist: “They’re here….”

Try not to peel your face off...
One of the better horror films to come out of the 80’s, The Poltergeist has many iconic scenes that have been parodied throughout popular culture since its release – such as the face peeling scene – but this one is possibly one of the creepiest.

The arrival of the spirits in the house sparks the TV to turn on and flicker while the family sleep, yet little Heather O’Rourke awakens in a semi-possessed state and watches the spirits before chillingly turning round exclaiming “They’re here…”.

Creepy:

That's it for the first lot! I hope you enjoyed these choices and the clips! Numbers 90-81 will be released sometime next week so keep a look out for it! :)
